OUR OTHER PROGRAMS

After School Program

Our after-school sessions provide a structured, active space where young athletes can build core skills, stay engaged, and connect with peers. A great way for players to develop fundamentals, teamwork, and confidence after the school day ends.

Camps

Our camps bring young athletes together for focused camp sessions that build core skills, strategy, and mentality. Players push their limits and take their play to a higher level in a challenging, supportive setting.

Training

Our expert coaches offer private, one-on-one and small-group sessions.  Coaches tailor trainings to enhance skill level, and basketball IQ.

Expectations & Commitment

We expect our players to commit time and effort to their development. Improvement requires practice and repetition—progress will not occur simply by joining the team. Players should actively work on their skills outside of scheduled practices.

Attendance at all practices and games is essential. Inconsistent attendance will affect playing time. As a competitive team, commitment is vital to our program.

We ask families to understand that playing time is earned through performance, attitude, effort, and contributions to the team. We prioritize what each player brings to the game and their dedication to the team's success.

To promote constructive communication, we have a "24-hour rule" for feedback after games. Unless it is positive, we ask parents and families to wait 24 hours before reaching out with comments.

Finally, we expect each family to support a positive team environment. Cooperation among families creates a strong foundation for players to grow and be challenged.

Q:
Which AAU circuits do Reign teams participate in.

The Reign participates in Under Armour, MADE Hoops, West Coast Elite, and Hoopsource among others. We are always evaluating dditional opportunities for our players to compete.

Q:
What does travel entail?

This depends on which team your child plays on. We provide travel information for each team in the time between your child making the team and when the season begins. Our Little Hoopers typically play closer to home than our Hoopers and our High School Select teams.

Q:
Do you have programs for girls?

Yes! Currently our Our Rising Hoopers Program has girls teams (6th-8th). We are targeting expanding our girls teams to our Little Hoopers (2nd - 5th) teams as well, starting with our Spring Summer '24 season. If you would be interested in Girls Little Hoopers, contact us.

Q:
My athlete is in second grade. Can they play with the Reign?

Yes. If your child is able to shoot on a 10 foot hoop and they are in second grade, they are welcome to try out. Depending on where they are at, they are welcome on the team if we possibly can accomodate them. Coaches make sure each kid in Little Hoopers gets playing time in games, but games are competitive and more committed and more advanced players will typically get more game time. They may also have a practice position. Both options are great for early development of hoopers. Experience and skill are not required for our youngest hoopers. Commitment and effort are requirements.

Q:
Your programs are out of reach financially. Do you offer scholarships?

Yes. We are committed to making year round basketball accessible for all kids. Contact Us for more information on scholarships.

There are also opportunities to reduce fees through volunteering partnerships we have secured in the Portland area.

  • Food For Funds at Moda Center and Providence Park - OLCC and Food Handlers Permit required. $100-150 per session

  • Bottle Drop: Sort redeemable cans & bottles after events. 50% of proceeeds go towards team fees.

  • And much more

Q:
If an athlete is ready to play with older players, is that an option?

Yes. If a player is ready for the next level of competition, we move them up to play with older hoopers. We take development seriously, and love to watch kids thrive at THEIR level. They will be there because they are ready and can benefit the team. Each season, we have players that swing between teams.

Q:
Are the practice coach and game coaches the same?

Coaches for games and practices may differ, depending on schedule. We manage the preparation of all players throughout our development program led by Coach Phil and Coach Jake. Each age group has additional experienced coaches assigned to guide practice and games. AAU tournaments are spread out throughout Portland Metro and additional travel locations. We carefully make our tournament coach schedules each week based on game locations and timing and coach availability.

Q:
What does a practice entail?

Our practices are designated to ensure our players are ready to compete at a competitive level. We change our practice schedule depending on if we are playing in the upcoming weekend. We focus on skill building, offensive and defensive strategies, and building strength and conditioning.

Q:
What does a practice feel like?

For new players, practices can feel overwhelming at first. We move quickly and demand a lot of focus. However, with time kids get used to pace and level of attention needed, settle in, and thrive. Practices are structured to ensure we are developing their basketball skills, IQ, and the offenses and defenses they need to know once they step on the floor for a game.

Q:
What is the Reign's coaching style?

Our coaches quickly learn where each player is at in their basketball development and we tailor instruction based on that. We don't expect kids to play beyong their current ability, but we do expect and nourish progress through clear expectations and supportive yet firm coaching.

Q:
Is it ok if my athlete can't make practice or games?

No. We are committed to our players and we expect the same commitment from players and parents.

Q:
Can parents attend practices?

Practices are closed to parents. We want our athletes focused and engaged, and we have found that having parents in the gym  distracts and detracts from the coaching and learning environment.
